Sept 2011: Landfill Levy Increase

The new Waste Management (Landfill Levy) Regulations 2011 which take effect from 1 September 2011 and are designed to promote the segregation of waste streams and to divert waste from landfill where possible.

The Regulations have increased the landfill levy by €20 per tonne to €50 per tonne for each tonne of waste disposed of at both authorised and unauthorised landfill facilities. The Minister has also stated his intention to further increase the landfill levy rate to €65 per tonne of waste disposed of at authorised and unauthorised landfill sites from 1st July 2012 and €75 per tonne from 1st July 2013.

Businesses should take note of the new Regulations because they will inevitably affect your day to day business operations with waste disposal costs likely to increase significantly.
