Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals T/A Wyeth Nutritional were recently shortlisted for the Best Packaging Prevention Initiative as part of the Repak Recycling Awards for 2011.

Sept 2011: Landfill Levy Increase

The new Waste Management (Landfill Levy) Regulations 2011 which take effect from 1 September 2011 and are designed to promote the segregation of waste streams and to divert waste from landfill where possible.

June 2011: Extension of Food Waste Regulations

The Waste Management (Food Waste) Regulations 2009 which came into effect from 1st July 2010 are about to be expanded to include all businesses that are producing food waste.

June 2011: Proposed Government Packaging Levy

The Department of the Environment recently announced that it is considering the introduction of a packaging levy as a waste reduction strategy.  They have begun a process of consultation with industry, stakeholders and the public on this broad subject of a packaging tax.

May 2011: CRE Annual Conference

Val Sheridan, Senior Consultant with Greenstreets will be one of the key note speakers at the upcoming CRE National Anaerobic Digestion & Composting Conference which is taking place in the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny on the 27th May 2011. Val will be discussing the potential to generate Carbon credits for Composting and Anaerobic Digestion plants in Ireland.

The submission deadline for your Repak Packaging Statistical Return form for the period July to December 2010 is fast approaching. All submissions must be made online by the 21st of February 2011 and there is a penalty system in operation for late submissions so it is recommended that procedures are put in place to ensure the deadlines are met.

Sept 2010: ESB Price Controls to be abolished

The electricity market has been open to competition since 2005. Up to now, the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) has controlled the electricity prices charged by ‘ESB Customer Supply’ whereas other suppliers were free to set their own pricing. This in effect set ESB’s price as the benchmark for electricity costs and other suppliers (such as Energia, Airtricity etc) frequently set their charges as ‘x% below ESB rates’.

Aug 2010: New PSO Levy for all Electricity Customers

From 1st October 2010, all electricity customers will be charged a PSO levy on their electricity bill. The objective of this levy is to support the use of peat (an indigenous fuel) and renewable energy in the generation of electricity so that Ireland may enhance the security of our energy supply.

July 2010: E4 Environment partners with Greenstreets in UK

E4environment and Greenstreets have formed an agency partnership to market and sell GRIPS Software in the UK.

Speaking at the launch of the agreement in July, Greenstreets CEO Michael O’Byrne commented that although the agreement had only just been formalized, both companies have been working together for several years on a number of different projects.
