Aug 2010: New PSO Levy for all Electricity Customers

From 1st October 2010, all electricity customers will be charged a PSO levy on their electricity bill. The objective of this levy is to support the use of peat (an indigenous fuel) and renewable energy in the generation of electricity so that Ireland may enhance the security of our energy supply.

For businesses, the PSO levy will be charged differently depending on the amount of energy used. Small to medium energy users will pay a flat charge of €99.03 per annum while larger industries will pay €13.82 per KVA. The payment of the PSO levy will be spread evenly over each invoice.

The levy charges are controlled by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) in accordance with relevant legislation. These charges represent a substantial increase for energy because previous PSO levies were zero or close to zero.
